Donated flight saves dozens of shelter pets after wildfires devastate Maui
Over the weekend, Ameriflight took part in a life-saving shelter pet transport from Maui, Hawaii to Hayward, California in support of Greater Goods Charities’ Good Flights. The pets were relocated out of the Maui Humane Society in a desperate effort to clear shelter space to then intake pets displaced by the recent wildfires.
Greater Good Charities partnered with Southwest Airlines for the first leg of relief, transporting critical supplies to the island and returning to Portland, Oregon with nearly 150 cats and dogs.
Once in Portland, many of the pets were taken to the Oregon Humane Society, where they received any needed care before being placed for adoption. But for 44 of those special passengers (33 dogs and 11 cats), their journey wasn’t over quite yet. They were loaded onto an Ameriflight EMB120 and transported to Hayward, CA. where they were then taken by various shelters across the Bay Area who have kindly opened their doors to take in these sweet animals and eventually find new homes for them.
Thanks to Greater Good Charities, and all participating parties, this operation was a huge success! This was a big task for all involved and it couldn’t have gone any smoother. We, at Ameriflight, are always up to the task of Delivering More Than Cargo!
