Meet Jeff Fidone, Captain and DFW Pilot Supervisor 👋
“I’m a Navy brat and was born in Rota, Spain, but I grew up in McKinney, Texas. When I wasn’t in a classroom at McKinney North High School, I was on the football field or running the cross country course. After graduation, I attended Texas Tech University, where I earned a degree in business.
As a kid, I wanted to be a soldier when I grew up and that’s exactly what I did. I’ve spent 19 years in active duty and reserve service with the United States Marine Corps. Today, I serve as a Foreign Security Force Advisor (MOS 0571) with 4th Reconnaissance Battalion out of San Antonio. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of leading Marines, including serving as a Company Commander with 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in New Orleans.
At the same time, aviation was always in the background. My father flew for American Airlines, and over time, he encouraged me to pursue a pilot career. I began flight training at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE) and completed it back home in North Texas at Monarch Air in McKinney and Addison.
My aviation career has taken me across the country. Early on, I flew pipeline patrol in Midland, Texas for American Patrols. From there, I moved on to flying the Cessna 208 Caravan for CSA Air in Kingsford, Michigan, followed by the SA227 Metroliner for Bemidji Aviation in Fargo, North Dakota.
In 2023, I accepted Ameriflight’s job offer of an ESCS El Paso-based SA227 Metroliner Captain position. I’m now dual-qualified in the Saab 340 and Metro as a Captain. I’m still serving in the ESCS Department, but I’ve also been the Pilot Supervisor for Dallas for about a year and a half now. In addition to flying, my duties include addressing a myriad of pilot/admin issues to alleviate workload on my Regional Chief Pilot.
Some of my favorite memories with Ameriflight so far would be conducting Metro OE with Tom Stowe and island-hopping around Puerto Rico, and executing a money trip from Miami to Curacao and Bonaire. And, of course, cutting up with my boys Stephen, Warren, Francis, Jacob, Connor, Ben, Niko, Miguel, Joe, Frank, Owen. When I’m not working, I try to stay active and grounded. I live in Trophy Club, Texas, with my girlfriend Brooke, who works as a nurse at the VA clinic. I enjoy spending time on Lake Lewisville, fishing or wakeboarding, and I keep up a regular workout routine at Planet Fitness. I also enjoy playing electric guitar, following college and professional sports, catching the horse races at Lone Star Park, and getting out to snowboard when I can.
A Few Things About Me
- Two things I find interesting about my job: Flying in icing conditions, low visibility approaches, and dodging thunderstorms. Visiting cities (excluding Laredo and Del Rio).
- Favorite local restaurant: I enjoy Thai food and Greek cuisine. Spice 8 in Fort Worth is good. Prince Lebanese Grill in Arlington in very good.
- Three items I’d bring to a deserted island: Solar-powered generator, PlayStation 5, and a TV monitor
- Favorite destination I’ve traveled to: Lake Tahoe, CA. Very nice geographic area with lots of scenic hiking trails, also 2.5 hour drive to Yosemite National Park.
